A linkable asset is something we build and publish on your website that we can then pitch to bloggers and journalists for backlinks.

Depending on your goals, a linkable asset might be necessary to run your campaign. Usually, a linkable asset is necessary to reach the higher end of our estimated ranges in the link building packages above.

In most industries, when we don’t have a linkable asset to work with, we’re limited to campaigns like:

Link building FAQ

What does "depending on engagement level" mean?

When we do pitching, we engage prospects at different levels before emails are sent out.

Sometimes, we don’t do any personalization, while other times, we follow them on Twitter, share an article, then email them!

It all depends on what we’re able to find. To keep it measurable for both of us and so you can see where your money is going, we use retainer-based pricing and deduct the following amount for the engagement type:

  1. Shotgun – $15/prospect – 4 automated emails: These prospects get no personalization and are put into an automated sequence that we build in MailShake, the outreach software we use. This is usually because we can’t find enough information on them, but they’re still worth pitching for the goals of the campaign. These prospects will take up to 5 weeks to make it through the whole sequence before negotiations start.
  2. Cold – $35/prospect – 4 personalized emails: When we have a prospect’s name and email address, we put heavier personalization into our emails. These prospects will take up to 5 weeks to make it through the whole sequence before negotiations start.
  3. Warm – $50/prospect – 2 social media touches, 3 personalized emails: When we have a prospect’s name, email address, and social media account, we work in some social touches before and during outreach to improve success rates. These prospects will take up to 6 weeks to make it through the sequence before negotiations start.
  4. Hot – $80/prospect – 6 social touches, 4 personalized emails, 1 social DM: If we really want a prospect, we go all out and leverage social touches, email, and even a social media DM in an attempt to win the placement. This is if we have everything on the client and if they have 500k+ in traffic. These prospects will take up to 10 weeks to make it through the sequence before negotiations start.

These amounts are deducted each time a prospect is added to your campaign. Prospects are added weekly, and your retainer is used up after 4 weeks. From there, our team works the prospect all the way through the sequence. Even if you end your engagement with us.

This is why it may take 90 days or more to see placements after you’ve started paying for our work.

What is a link building agency?

A link building agency is exactly what it sounds like: it’s a company that specializes in getting links from reputable websites back to your website, usually with cold email outreach. This can be done for promotional reasons, but it’s often done to improve SEO (Search Engine Optimization) performance.

How are you different from your competitors?

We have a very powerful team. The three factors that impact SEO the most are the build of your domain, the quality and effectiveness of your content at delivering on search intent, and your ability to get backlinks from PR-style outreach. VERY few companies are good at all of these things, but we excel at all of them. This means we have a team that can execute SEO campaigns in the most competitive markets, which we’ve done before.

We focus everything on the user. Google wants good experiences for their users, and their algorithm is designed to measure user experience signals. It used to be the case that they just read what’s on the page and sort it, but now they use advanced AI algorithms to measure user behavior signals at a massive scale. With computing power becoming more advanced, the computing power of these algorithms will accelerate and the ability for Google to understand their users will only become better, making our type of work much more important in the future even than today. This is true with backlinks, too, and is why buying them won’t work anymore.

How many links can you build per month?

It depends. Keep in mind that you’re not paying for links, you’re paying for the pitching, not the links, which will be reported to you monthly. Other link building companies charge per link, but they also buy them. This is spammy, and we don’t do that. We conduct manual outreach to influencers, bloggers, and journalists in your niche with campaigns designed to attract high-quality links naturally. These are the types of links that get your website in the SERPs. Even if you’re a startup.

How long does it take to start seeing results?

That depends on what you mean by “results.”

Does “results” mean we get some opportunities and conversations going? About 3 weeks.

Does “results” mean we’ve landed a few links? 3-4 months.

Looking to see ranking improvements? Well, this depends on how many links your competitors have for a specific keyword or set of keywords, and how many of them Google is even counting toward ranking improvements, which we can’t know. However, this usually happens during month 6.

In fact, Google says that the number of links doesn’t actually matter when attributing links to rankings and that it’s more about quality placements.

We also can’t know what link building strategies or SEO plans your competitors have in the coming months.

We also don’t know how they’ll react to our effort. They can see it through their SEO tools, after all.

So, again…it depends.🤷🏻‍♂️

The best we can do is continue to invest in intelligent ways to chase backlinks. That’s how any good link builder would handle link building internally at a business, and that’s how we do it for you.

What industries do you work in?

Every link building agency says they can work in any industry, and many do it just fine. But we do it extremely well by mapping subject matter experts into our process.

  • Initial Onboarding Emails – during the first few weeks, we’ll send you updates about our prospecting, social media warm-up, personalization, and outreach strategy for your outreach. These reports will be sent when the tasks for each type of work are completed and will include educational blog content about why we do things a certain way so you can see how our work maps to link placements. Additionally, at the end of our first week working together, you’ll get a time entry report with details on how we plan to reallocate your time week-to-week for your specific project.
  • Monthly Campaign Status Updates – This will be a monthly email from your Account Strategist that will go over any strategic changes. You’ll also get a snapshot of where we’re at with new opportunities and earned links over the past 30 days.

Is your team outsourced or offshored?

Some of us, yes. It depends on the job. If we need to do outreach in Germany for an international client, we’ll need to hire someone in Germany and train them on our outreach practices. This enables us to hire the best people for the spot, regardless of their geography. Our team is remote, which means we have people all over the world who work for us. This includes writers because, sometimes, a writer who knows the subject matter isn’t readily available domestically. However, the content is always edited by a local editor who specializes in that language. Regardless of the build of your team, always make sure we hit certain KPIs that drive success for our clients. Whatever the case, you have an SEO expert on your project at all times.

Can I choose the anchor text of my links?

We’re an SEO agency, so we understand why you’d want to choose your anchor text. When it comes to backlinks, one of the biggest ranking factors.

Unfortunately, while we understand that this is an important part of an SEO strategy, we can’t guarantee any specific anchor text placement. High-quality websites won’t allow us to make specific demands. They are, after all, allowing us to reach their audience in a way that, from their perspective, drives brand awareness for you.

So if we ask too much of them, they’ll end up rejecting the content because we’ll come off as selfish. This doesn’t look good for you, and can hurt our relationships with webmasters.

Do your links drive referral traffic?

They can, yes! Many people think that quality link building means domain authority, but for some campaigns, referral traffic is the goal. If you’re an eCommerce brand and we can get you on a product list with 4,000 monthly readers, that’s something we’ll aim to chase when we build a campaign for you! Our link building techniques are often leveraged for SEO, but they can be aimed at traffic acquisition as well!

What's your domain authority range?

We usually aim for 20 or higher as a baseline goal, and we use Ahrefs’ metric of domain rating because that’s where we do a lot of our prospecting. We can aim for higher, but it often drives up the cost per link because it takes us more time to find prospects. More on that here.

Do you do local link building?

Yes we do! We usually do local guest posting, localized digital PR, or reach out to lists online to feature your business. You can read about how we do these in our local SEO guide.

Local SEO clients usually don’t need a very large budget. The smallest plan is good for most, unless you’re in a very competitive niche like legal where the cost per click is high and everyone else is also doing a lot of link building.
